Edwin Babbitt (1828 – 1905) was a brilliant man who developed a system of color healing over a century ago. He was one of the most influencial American pioneers and writers in the field of color and light research and therapy. He wrote a large book about his discoveries, theories and applications of both. During his time he was known as the Color Prophet and provided many with relief not only of symptoms, but of causes as well. However, the medical community reviled him as a charlatan despite his results.
It’s interesting when you consider that today we have Fritz Popp’s work:
“His research began with the confirmation of the existence of biophotons, which had earlier been studied by Terence Quickenden in Australia. International projects led to cooperation with scientists such as Walter Nagl, Ilya Prigogine and David Bohm.”
from Wikipedia
Fritz Popp is also uses specific light frequencies to treat skin cancer – and they work. You can find more about his work in the book The Field by Lynn McTaggart.
Edwin Babbitt’s main book that comes down to us today – Principles of Light and Color – is most often found as a reprint version of a 1967 reprint that was edited by then color expert Faber Birren. In that version nearly half of Babbitt’s thesis is removed. It’s interesting that this is so considering that Birren considered Babbitt a brilliant man as well. From his forward to the 1967 reprint:
“If Edwin D. Babbitt on the one side is praised as a redeemer and on the other side condemned as a charlatan, what remains indubitable is that his book and his life’s work have marked one of the most amazing events in the fascinating history of color.”
So why remove so much of his work?
Whatever the case, it is possible to track down copies of the original work, but they tend to be prohibitively expensive – $100 or so. As a result, I decided to place a full version reprint here from 1878. The version here is a double page scan of consisting of 278 pages.

Principles of Light and Color compliments von Reichenbach’s research very well and you can get his work here.

Hello Julie!
I’m glad you found the book! It’s one of the earliest written on the subject & the man apparently had the “sight” which enabled him to write on the subject. I’m hoping to add a few more groundwork books on alternative science.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
This site is entirely written & handled by just myself – Dawne Berry. No other authors contribute to the work here at this time. This is of course not including any free books I might offer.
