As something ages, it gains experience. In gaining experience, it gains complexity. Complexity allows and creates diversity, but it also embraces itself as whole. When something is whole, it becomes its own welfare, since there is no division within. This is like the branching complexity of roots growing ever deeper into soil for their nourishment. They grow ever more diversified, yet they weave all the seemingly disparate components together to create a complex, unified whole.
This is what we do as we grow: We develop strands of experience over time that are like one string of our harmonic whole. Each strand has its own nature, yet remains part of the whole, thus allowing us to be many in one and remain one. Through this process, the whole is enabled to get along with itself even in disagreement for everything is heard and exchanging until there is consensus.
Nonetheless, even whole, things remain multi-stranded so that life is capable of a multitude of responses, thus allowing us a greater and greater range of creativity as it develops greater complexity. As complex beings, over time, we are able to pick a strand out of many, or even use multiple strands of who we are, discovering and developing abilities and talents through the process. It is in complexity that we have joy and it is within wholeness that we have peace.
