Energies of the Body

Insights-iconThere are two flows within the human body: Both are active. One is masculine and the other is feminine. These flows are one of water and one of fire. One receives and the other sends out. One harmonizes and the other commands. Water resides on the right and fire on the left. Together these flows produce all action.

The flow on the right brings fortunate results because it is sensitive to currents and therefore to time in both movement and stillness. It taps the memory of living things and all is living. This flow  remembers so that it may instruct the other flow. It knows the when and how of things.

This flow always seeks to protect us and those we care for. This flow cools and cooperates, covering slights and soothing pains and in doing so, allows us the space to forgive. It is strategic in its undertaking and understands the need for negotiation. It is the side that puts power into all our actions through desire and mindfulness. This our thinking and feeling side; the part of us that would be called spiritual.

The flow on the left brings weak results because it responds to our impulsive drives and on its own, leading us into foolish actions, which in turn can twist our path. It is sensitive to the wills of others and their emotions and therefore to immediate sensation. It knows the who and what of things.

This flow attacks anything perceived as a threat to that which it holds dear. This flow burns and as such, can remove deceit and in doing so, reveal courage and thence, to honesty. It is tactical in its actions and understands the power of persuasion. It is also the side that compels us forward and causes us to interact with others in a friendly manner. It learns by doing and this becomes knowing. It is the side from which all our actions, whether angry or kind, are put in motion. This is our powerful and creative side; the part of us that would be called humane.

Water by itself only takes in and is unable to give back. Fire by itself can only collapse under its own complexities. When fire is informed by water, comprehension and depth follow. When water is directed by fire, healing and generative forces flow. Together, these flows know the why of things. This brings with it the development of wisdom.
