Balance

engines-iconLove also seeks balance – it gives itself with the expectation of return because it understands its own worth. This balance is not the an equalling of the scales, as it were; it is about “fit” – as only one puzzle piece truly fits to another, or as a knife handle is necessary to the blade to be effective. No one part is ever more important that another and each requires the other, although in different ways.

It is through love’s balance that we are fit into the mosaic of life. However, we must be careful not to become lost within that mosaic, or we lose ourselves. It is our very difference that makes us valuable and necessary to the whole.

Inversion

In love’s action of balancing, love has a long memory for the things of tenderness and a short one for misunderstandings. However, love has the longest memory for betrayal and love’s betrayal is to be scorned.

Love’s opposite is contempt – that which we hold as beneath us and of little or no value. In other words, to scorn another. These thoughts lead to expressions that show our feelings. Examples of this kind of expression most often begin with words such as idiot, fool, stupid and the like. In turn, the words lead to actions consistent with how we feel. Those actions then try to steal the life of another in order to gain more for the one who scorns: These words and actions deny value, thereby taking away love.

To scorn, to hold another in contempt, is to make a mockery of a part of life and all life is sacred by virtue of love. Since the core of the Universe is love, when we scorn another, we scorn the entire Universe and therefore we are holding all in contempt – especially ourselves.

Gift and Tool

Love removes the dimness in our eyes, allowing us to really see others, the world and by extension, the entire Universe in the brightness we were always meant to see it in.

The gift of love is mercy. Through mercy we are able to forgive and through forgiveness, we are able to heal ourselves and others from the pains that come in life. Mercy is the vehicle through which we are able to make things right. Mercy gives us a thankful heart and is our reward for doing the right thing. Mercy shows us the favor we are held in by another and is a way to express the importance in which we hold another being.
