Responsibility of the Heart: The Challenge

thoughts-iconThe Challenge

Now that we have come to the end of this series, here is my challenge to you: Begin with a smile! Smile to the person on the street as you pass by. The cashier, the manager, your neighbor. Smile to your children (or any child you see), your lover/partner. Smile to yourself in the mirror and as you look, make sure it reaches your eyes. I’m not being glib here, because I’m telling you to do it even, no, especially when you don’t feel like it. In order to smile at someone, you must see them first and whenever you do, if you pay attention, you’ll notice that you’re listening too.

It’s so easy to do, makes us feel better and makes our own lives easier because those around us feel better. No cash outlay and no overhead. Yet most of the time we act like it’s the most costly thing we possess and jealously hoard them, as though we’ll suddenly become destitute and living on the streets should we let one slip. It IS one of the more precious things we have, but it’s not like we have a limited supply and the more you give them away, the more you have of them. It’s the ultimate renewable resource and it’s called CARING.

YOU are able to influence and change the universe. Yes, you. Just little you, have that kind of power. You can be the problem between the keyboard and chair, or contribute by putting in your heart, so the whole has something GOOD to put out for everyone. It’s up to you and you have the responsibility of being careful with another’s heart.
